So lucky, to be able to hitch a ride with some real nice peeps…meeting up with the rest of the gang at anchor in Discovery Harbour, Penetanguishene. A two hour tour from Victoria Harbour via sailboat, a real beauty too, a 36′ Hunter to be exact…wow, nice ride!
What a beautiful day it would be. After a successful anchorage, it was time to pour the celebratory drink! We got settled, relaxed a bit and then off to another friend’s boat for Happy Hour.
Dinner was an absolute success, serving up Fettuccine Alfredo, with shrimp and a garden salad. FYI, I’m the designated galley wench… I mean, witch…give me the ingredients & I’ll brew up a little something, lol!
The evening started with good conversation, on another friend’s boat… ya, one sure gets around, when you go off floating with a bunch of boat people. The night ended in a grueling match of Battle of the Sexes…damn, the guys won! Never mind, laughter and fun was had by all!
Ahhhh…the dingy ride…exploring we will go, exploring we will go, hi-ho, the derry-o…
Discovery Harbour, the original British naval and military base in Penetanguishene, built to protect access to Upper Canada after the War of 1812 and occupied until 1856. Home to many, including sailors, officers, shipwrights and soldiers. Ships, smaller vessels, numerous workshops and dwellings were built…here you can feel what it was really like for the people in the early 1800s. Also home port for two large replica historic ships, one, a warship, H.M.S. Tecumseth, the other, a supply schooner, H.M.S. Bee, which ferried both goods and men.
